The first regional private airline in China is China Express Airlines, and they have recently agreed to purchase several aircraft from Bombardier, the Canadian aircraft manufacturer. It is expected the deal has a value of nearly $270 million. This is the first order that has been made from China to Bombardier in nearly a decade.
The company has also stated that they would be interested in buying five more of the aircraft in the near future. If this goes ahead then the deal would be valued at nearly US$500 million. The airline is based in Guiyang which is located in south-west China. It currently provides passenger services in the region with five aircraft capable of seating 50 people each.
There are currently around 80 aircraft produced by Bombardier operating in China and it is expected that over the next two decades the number of commercial planes operating in the country is going to increase dramatically. It is expected that in the near future the country is going to become one of the world’s largest markets for new aircraft.
Bombardier are expecting that demand in China is going to result in around 2400 aircraft operating there within the next 20 years.
