Weekend Away Gift Experience Voted Most Romantic Present

A weekend away gift experience has been voted the most romantic present that your loved one could give you, according to a recent survey.

Travel agency Come Travel With Us, commissioned the poll to help identify the changing habits of people and their holidays. The survey also discovered that a weekend away is not only one of the most popular ways of seeing the world, it is also the most sought after gift for a lady.

“From our research, there are lots of young women out there who have been surprised with a weekend away gift experience, and it has gone down very well,” says Phillip Radford, managing director of Come Travel With Us.

“The feedback we get from customers is that Venice, Paris and Rome are the places most women want to be taken to, and according to our figures, the women are getting what they want.”

That is because Come Travel With Us has reported record numbers for the last 12 months. The organisation says that the number of people who have booked a weekend away gift experience has more than doubled in the last year.

The poll also suggests that more people prefer to book a weekend away, instead of going on a longer holiday.

“We have been seeing a change in the way people holiday over the past 10 years, which is why we commissioned the research,” says Mr Radford.

“And what we found was that 78% of people prefer to go somewhere for two to three days, instead of booking to go to one destination for a week.”

He attributes the record figures to the strengthening economy and the recent spell of bad weather in the UK.

“We all want a bit of sun in our lives, so that is why our customers are booking to go to Spain, Italy and France for the weekends. Plus going away for a couple of days is far more convenient as you don’t need to book time off work.”

Richard Glover, 33, from Northampton booked a weekend away gift experience for his girlfriend, who was completely overwhelmed by the surprise.

“I am well known for not being all that romantic, so when I produced the tickets, she couldn’t quite believe I had done it. We had a fabulous time in Venice and I even found the time to get down on one knee to propose. Well, it had been part of the plan all along, luckily she said yes,” he laughs.

Penny Harvester, 31, from London goes away every year with her partner for a couple of days at a time.

“We have been going on weekend away breaks for years. It means we don’t have to book the cat into a cattery, as our neighbours will look after him, and we get to see a little bit of the world at the same. Plus it’s a more affordable way to travel,” she explains.

For Dorothy and her husband Don, going away for a couple of days gives them time away from the kids and their business.

“We don’t often get a chance to spend any sort of quality time together, so we like to hop on a plane from time to time and go somewhere we have never seen before. Being away for a couple of days gives you just about the right amount of time to recharge the batteries and get away from it all,” she says.

“Plus the kids loved it when we go away, we just have to make sure they don’t have any crazy parties. So far we have been lucky,” she laughs.
